Murders of Bernice and Ben Novack Jr.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Bernice Novack and her son, Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel heir Ben Novack Jr., were killed three months apart in 2009 — Bernice in her Fort Lauderdale, Florida, home and Ben in a Rye Brook, New York hotel suite. Ben's estranged wife, Narcy Novack, was convicted in 2012 of orchestrating both killings and was sentenced to life in prison without parole; her brother and three other men were also convicted or pleaded guilty for their roles.

Murder of Julie Jensen

Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin

Julie Jensen was found dead in her Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin home on December 3, 1998, after being poisoned with antifreeze. A letter she wrote before her death naming her husband, Mark Jensen, as a suspect became central evidence. Mark Jensen was convicted in 2008, had that conviction overturned on appeal in 2015, and was convicted again at a second trial in 2023.

Yeardley Love, a University of Virginia women's lacrosse player, was found unresponsive in her Charlottesville apartment on May 3, 2010. Fellow UVA lacrosse player George Wesley Huguely V was arrested and later convicted of second-degree murder, receiving a 23-year prison sentence.

Murder of Cassie Jo Stoddart

Whispering Cliffs Drive, Pocatello, Idaho

Cassie Jo Stoddart, a 16-year-old Pocatello, Idaho high school student, was stabbed to death on September 22, 2006 by two classmates, Brian Lee Draper and Torey Michael Adamcik, who said they were inspired by the film Scream. Both were convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.

Killing of Tara Grinstead

Ocilla, Georgia, United States

Tara Grinstead, a Georgia high school teacher, disappeared from her Ocilla home on October 22, 2005, and was later declared dead. In 2017, Ryan Alexander Duke was arrested and charged with her murder; in 2022 he was acquitted of murder but convicted of concealing her death. A former classmate, Bo Dukes, was separately convicted for helping conceal the death.
