    Assassination of Anwar Sadat

    On 6 October 1981, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat was shot and killed by members of Egyptian Islamic Jihad during a military parade in Cairo commemorating the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Ten others died and 28 were wounded. The lead assassin and four co-conspirators were tried, convicted, and executed in 1982.

    Assassination of Wasfi Tal

    On 28 November 1971, Jordanian Prime Minister Wasfi Tal was shot dead outside the Sheraton Hotel in Cairo, Egypt, by members of the Black September Organization. Four men were apprehended by Egyptian authorities but were released without prosecution.

    2004 Sinai bombings

    Three coordinated bombings struck tourist sites in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula on 7 October 2004, killing 34 people and wounding 171, in attacks on the Hilton Taba hotel and campsites near Nuweiba popular with Israeli tourists.

    Botroseya Church bombing

    On 11 December 2016, a suicide bomber killed 29 people and injured 47 others at St. Peter and St. Paul's (Botroseya) Church, adjacent to Cairo's Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral. ISIS claimed responsibility; Egyptian authorities identified the bomber and arrested several suspects.
