On February 23, 2020, 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery was chased by three white men in trucks while jogging in the Satilla Shores neighborhood near Brunswick, Georgia, and was fatally shot by Travis McMichael after a struggle. No arrests were made for over two months until a video of the killing went viral, after which Travis McMichael, Gregory McMichael, and William "Roddie" Bryan were charged, tried, and convicted of murder and other crimes in state court, and later convicted of federal hate crime and attempted kidnapping charges.

Tara Grinstead, a Georgia high school teacher, disappeared from her Ocilla home on October 22, 2005, and was later declared dead. In 2017, Ryan Alexander Duke was arrested and charged with her murder; in 2022 he was acquitted of murder but convicted of concealing her death. A former classmate, Bo Dukes, was separately convicted for helping conceal the death.

Jarmecca "Nikki" Whitehead, a 34-year-old beautician, was found beaten and stabbed to death in her Conyers, Georgia home in January 2010. On March 16, 2021, a gunman killed eight people—six of them women of Asian descent—and wounded a ninth at two spas and a massage parlor in the Atlanta area. Robert Aaron Long was arrested hours later and pleaded guilty to the Cherokee County killings, receiving life without parole; he faces separate Fulton County charges including hate crime enhancements and the death penalty.
