    On 4 October 2024 in Istanbul, 19-year-old Semih Çelik, identified by police as the attacker, killed Ayşenur Halil and İkbal Uzuner, both 19, within half an hour of each other, then died by suicide; the public murder-suicide sparked nationwide protests over femicide in Turkey.

    Assassination of Jamal Khashoggi

    Saudi journalist and Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi was killed by a Saudi government hit squad inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on 2 October 2018; his body was dismembered and never recovered, and the killing was later found by the CIA and a UN investigator to have been premeditated and ordered at the highest levels of the Saudi government.

    Assassination of Hrant Dink

    Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink, editor of the newspaper Agos, was shot dead outside his office in Istanbul on 19 January 2007. Ogün Samast was convicted of the killing; Yasin Hayal and Erhan Tuncel were convicted for their roles in inciting and orchestrating the assassination, with dozens of others later tried over the broader plot.

    2015 Ankara bombings

    Two suicide bombs targeted a peace rally outside Ankara Central railway station on 10 October 2015, killing 109 people and injuring hundreds in the deadliest terror attack in Turkish history. In 2018, nine defendants were sentenced to life in prison over the bombing.

    On 1 October 2023, two attackers detonated explosives and opened fire outside the General Directorate of Security building in Ankara, Turkey, injuring two police officers before both attackers were killed. The PKK claimed responsibility for the attack.

    A car bomb detonated near a military convoy stopped at traffic lights in Ankara's Kızılay neighborhood during evening rush hour on 17 February 2016, killing at least 30 people and injuring 60. The Kurdistan Freedom Hawks (TAK) claimed responsibility.
