Robert Pickton, a pig farmer from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, was convicted in December 2007 of second-degree murder in the deaths of six women from Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. Investigators linked him to the deaths of at least 26 women in total, and 20 further first-degree murder charges against him were stayed in 2010.

John Brian Altinger, a 38-year-old Edmonton resident, was lured through a fake dating profile and killed by filmmaker Mark Twitchell in October 2008. Twitchell was convicted of first-degree murder in April 2011.

In October 2014, 45-year-old Japanese tourist Atsumi Yoshikubo disappeared while visiting Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada, after being seen walking alone along the Ingraham Trail. RCMP investigators concluded she likely went into the wilderness intending to end her life; her remains were found by a hiker in August 2015 and confirmed by DNA in April 2016.
