Cassie Jo Stoddart, a 16-year-old Pocatello, Idaho high school student, was stabbed to death on September 22, 2006 by two classmates, Brian Lee Draper and Torey Michael Adamcik, who said they were inspired by the film Scream. Both were convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.

Jerry Michael "Mike" Williams, 31, vanished during a duck-hunting trip on Lake Seminole on December 16, 2000, and was long presumed drowned and consumed by alligators. His remains were found near Tallahassee in October 2017 and ruled a homicide. His wife, Denise Williams, and her longtime friend and later second husband, Brian Winchester, were ultimately tied to the killing; Winchester testified he shot Williams at Denise's direction, and Denise was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder.

Robert Schwartz, a renowned biotechnology scientist, was stabbed to death at his Leesburg, Virginia home in December 2001 in a killing orchestrated by his daughter Clara Jane Schwartz and carried out by her friend Kyle Hulbert, with two others assisting. Bernice Novack and her son, Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel heir Ben Novack Jr., were killed three months apart in 2009 — Bernice in her Fort Lauderdale, Florida, home and Ben in a Rye Brook, New York hotel suite. Ben's estranged wife, Narcy Novack, was convicted in 2012 of orchestrating both killings and was sentenced to life in prison without parole; her brother and three other men were also convicted or pleaded guilty for their roles.

Farah Fratta, 33, was shot and killed outside her Atascocita, Texas home on November 9, 1994, in a murder-for-hire plot orchestrated by her estranged husband, police officer Robert Fratta, amid a contentious divorce and custody dispute. Fratta, middleman Joseph Prystash, and gunman Howard Guidry were all convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death. Fratta was executed in January 2023; Prystash died on death row in 2025; Guidry remains on death row.

Lorenzen Wright, a former NBA player, went missing from Collierville, Tennessee, in July 2010 and was found shot to death days later. Seven years afterward, his ex-wife Sherra Wright-Robinson pleaded guilty to facilitating his murder, and her friend Billy Ray Turner was convicted of carrying it out.
