    Killing of Andrew and Abby Borden

    Andrew and Abby Borden were killed with a hatchet at their Fall River, Massachusetts home on August 4, 1892. Andrew's daughter Lizzie Borden was tried and acquitted in 1893; the case remains officially unsolved.

    Cecil Hambrough died from a shotgun wound while on a hunting outing at the Ardlamont estate in Argyll, Scotland, in August 1893. His tutor, Alfred John Monson, was tried for murder but received Scotland's "not proven" verdict, a result that has left the case a lasting historical mystery.

    Robert Ross, a young poll watcher, was fatally shot during an election riot in Troy, New York, on March 6, 1894; Bartholomew Shea was convicted of first-degree murder and executed in 1896, while John McGough was convicted of first-degree assault.

    Murder of John, Martha, and Mary Ann Luckey

    On October 8, 1892, John Luckey, his wife Martha, and their daughter Mary Ann "Minnie" Luckey were killed and their farmhouse in Newbliss, Ontario (now part of Elizabethtown-Kitley Township) was set ablaze. John's son, Charles Sanford Luckey, was convicted of the triple murder and hanged in Brockville in 1893.
