Grace Brown, a 20-year-old factory worker, was murdered by her boyfriend Chester Gillette on Big Moose Lake, New York, in July 1906 after she told him she was pregnant. Gillette was convicted and executed in 1908.

George E. Bailey was shot and dismembered at Breakheart Hill Farm in Saugus, Massachusetts, in October 1900. His employee, John C. Best, was convicted of the murder and executed in 1902.

Between 1904 and 1909, dozens of immigrant peddlers from the Ottoman Empire vanished in rural Río Negro, Argentina, amid allegations of ritual cannibalism by a Mapuche community; over 70 people were arrested and charged, but the case collapsed after confessions were found to have been extracted through torture, and it remains unsolved.

Thomas and Ann Farrow were beaten to death during a robbery at their Deptford paint shop in March 1905. A greasy thumbprint left on the emptied cash box was matched to Alfred Stratton, making this one of the earliest murder convictions in Britain based on fingerprint evidence. Alfred and his brother Albert Stratton were convicted and hanged in May 1905.
