On 12 August 1966, three London police officers were shot dead in Braybrook Street, Shepherd's Bush, after stopping a car to question its occupants. Harry Roberts, John Duddy and John Witney were convicted of the murders and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Nicola Bulley, 45, disappeared on 27 January 2023 while walking her dog beside the River Wyre in St Michael's on Wyre, Lancashire; her body was found in the river on 19 February 2023, and an inquest concluded in June 2023 that she died of accidental drowning.

Harold Shipman, a GP in Hyde, Greater Manchester, was convicted in January 2000 of murdering 15 patients, including former mayoress Kathleen Grundy, using lethal doses of diamorphine. A subsequent public inquiry concluded he had killed at least 218 patients over roughly 27 years, making him one of the most prolific serial killers in modern history.

Retired couple John and Lois McCullough were murdered by their youngest daughter Virginia McCullough at their Essex home in June 2019, after which she concealed their bodies and lived in the house for four years before being arrested in September 2023.

Sophie Lancaster, 20, was beaten into a coma alongside her boyfriend Robert Maltby by a group of teenagers in Stubbylee Park, Bacup, on 11 August 2007, reportedly because the couple were dressed as goths. She died of her injuries thirteen days later; two of the attackers were convicted of her murder.

Dr Brenda Page, a geneticist, was beaten to death in her Aberdeen flat in July 1978. The case went unsolved for nearly 45 years until her former husband, Christopher Harrisson, was convicted of her murder in March 2023.
Alley off London Road, Greenhithe, Kent, UK · 1993
Sixteen-year-old Claire Tiltman was fatally stabbed in an alley in Greenhithe, Kent, on 18 January 1993 while walking to a friend's house. The case went unsolved for over two decades until Colin Ash-Smith, already convicted of two similar knife attacks in the area, was convicted of her murder in December 2014.

On 16 June 2016, British Labour MP Jo Cox was shot and stabbed to death in Birstall, West Yorkshire, by Thomas Alexander Mair. He was convicted in November 2016 of murder and related offences, with the judge finding the killing was an act of terrorism motivated by white supremacist and neo-Nazi ideology. Mair received a whole life order.

In 1804, London excise officer Francis Smith shot and killed bricklayer Thomas Millwood after mistaking him for a rumoured Hammersmith ghost, in a trial whose legal reasoning on mistaken belief was not resolved until a 1984 Court of Appeal decision.
